What Are the Six Types of Bridge Cranes?

Overhead crane is a lifting equipment that is horizontally suspended above workshops, warehouses, and material yards for material lifting. Due to its two ends resting on tall cement columns or metal supports, it has a bridge like shape. The bridge of the overhead crane runs longitudinally along the tracks laid on both sides of the elevated structure, making full use of the space below the bridge to lift materials without being obstructed by ground equipment. It is the most widely used and numerous type of lifting machinery. Below is a brief introduction to the six types of bridge cranes:

single gieder overhead crane

1. Single Girder Bridge Crane

Single Girder Bridge Crane features a single horizontal girder supporting a trolley and hoist. The trolley runs along the bottom flange of the girder.Lightweight, cost effective, and ideal for facilities with limited ceiling height.Typically handles up to 20 tons.

Double girder overhead crane

2. Double Girder Bridge Crane

Double Girder Bridge Crane utilizes two parallel girders for enhanced stability, with the trolley moving on rails mounted atop the girders.Higher load capacity (up to 500+ tons), greater hook height, and compatibility with specialized attachments (e.g., magnets, ladles).

Top Running Bridge Crane

3.Top Running Bridge Crane

Top Running Bridge Crane end trucks run on rails installed on elevated runway beams attached to the building roof structure.Maximizes vertical lifting height and supports heavy loads

Under Running Bridge Crane

4. Under Running Bridge Crane

Under Running Bridge Crane also called a "underhung crane," it operates on the lower flange of runway beams fixed to the ceiling. The crane itself is suspended beneath the runway.Saves vertical space and allows for multi crane systems in the same area.

Metallurgical Bridge Crane

5. Metallurgical Bridge Crane

A heavy duty double girder crane with specialized features like heat-resistant components, dual hoists, and reinforced safety mechanisms.Designed to withstand extreme temperatures and hazardous environments.

Modular or Adjustable Bridge Crane

6. Modular or Adjustable Bridge Crane

Modular or Adjustable Bridge Crane customizable system with interchangeable components (girders, runways, hoists) that can be reconfigured for different spans or capacities.Scalable design adapts to changing operational needs without requiring full system replacement.

Key Considerations for Selecting a Bridge Crane:

Load Requirements: Match the crane's capacity to your heaviest loads.

Facility Constraints: Consider ceiling height, floor space, and structural support.

Duty Cycle: Frequent or continuous use demands robust double girder or metallurgical cranes.

Special requirements: For issues involving heat resistance, machine automation, and multi-directional machine movement, engineers need to be consulted to develop personalized solutions.

By gaining insights into these six types of bridge cranes, we can select the one that best suits our enterprise, thus optimizing the cargo handling process and enhancing both production safety and efficiency.
